With rising healthcare, pharmaceutical, transportation, and housing costs, older adults are vulnerable to physical and cognitive decline from inactivity, isolation, depression, malnutrition, and falls. They are also more likely to develop cognitive and balance impairment from neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease as they age.
Beyond immediate medical needs, older adults have few low cost/no cost resources available that empower them to maintain their own health and wellness. In looking at the public park system, it seems that the largest tax-paying demographic is being left out of the fun, with access to age-appropriate amenities being limited to spectating from the park bench.
We have dog parks, and skate parks, and toddler parks, and sports specific features like baseball diamonds and basketball courts… but where are the parks for older adults?
SeniorScapes Inc. focuses on the aging generation- which is all of us. The number of Americans ages 65 and older is projected to more than double from 46 million today to over 98 million by 2060, and the 65-and-older age group’s share of the total population will rise to nearly 24 percent from 15 percent.1
SeniorScapes Inc. is committed to helping aging Americans thrive in their homes and communities. We believe that physical activity, socialization, interaction with nature, cognitive stimulation, and caregiver respite are key tools for successful aging.
